NXTZEN has backed 59Racing and their two car McLaren 720S GT3 line-up for Australia's premier GT endurance event and first round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the 2020 Bathurst 12 Hour.
The Pro car entry will run #60 and boasts a rich blend of endurance and Bathurst experience.
The trio will be a force to be reckoned with after confirmation that Factory Driver Ben Barnicoat will join forces Alvaro Parente and Tom Blomqvist. Barnicoat and Parente last raced together in 2018 as part of the line-up which successfully debuted the 720S GT3 at the Gulf 12 Hours in December 2018. Parente returns to Mount Panorama looking to repeat his 2016race-winning efforts in a McLaren, while Blomqvist has enjoyed further top-level endurance having secured victory at the infamous 24 Hours of Spa in 2018.
“After making a winning start on debut with 59Racing at the beginning of 2019, the 720S GT3 went from strength to strength with our Customer Racing teams around the world. The car has proved it can compete, and win, against grids around the world, and the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour is the next big challenge. It is great to see 59Racing confirm two world-class driver line-ups who will be pushing for a strong result in their respective classes, and a clear indication that the team really means business.” said Ian Morgan, Director of Motorsport, McLaren Automotive.
The 720S GT3 made its Customer Racing team debut during the 2019 season with teams globally, competing across Europe, the UK, North America, Asia, Japan and Australia. .
This announcement marks the second entry into a round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge for the McLaren Super Series model, now entering its second full season of racing. This follows on from Customer Racing team Planex SmaCam Racing running at the championship’s fourth round at the Suzuka 10 Hour with double Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen in the line-up.
The 2020 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour race starts at 05.45 AEDT Sunday 1 February (18.45 GMT Saturday 31 January).
59Racing will boast an international trio of drivers in the team's Silver Class McLaren 720S GT3 at this year's Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
Sharing the NXTZEN backed car will be accomplished GT racers Fraser Ross (Australia), Dominic Storey (New Zealand), and Martin Kodric (Croatia).
